So here we are at the Roman festival and a funny thing happened on the way to the Forum, as Frankie Howard might say. Roger has been in envy of all the men wandering about in the roman costumes but managed to confine his enthusiasm to eating at one of the stalls - in the photo. So half a suckling pig for me and Turkey for him alongside those usual roman side dishes of chips and red wine. What a hoot.. The rest of the Roman market looked v familiar to the Sunday market in Stratford, magical creams, scented candles, jewellery that turns your neck green and key rings with your name on them. Amazing to feel so in touch with the 4th century AD. We've been real tourists today with tour of the cathedral which we both preferred to Burgos as it's smaller and less restored. Although it was alarming to hear how part of it it fell down in the 19th century and had to be rebuilt. It does feel strange not to be walking and we have another day off tomorrow but a very early start on Sunday morning in order to catch up. Our feeling of being tourists has been heightened by the fact we are next to the albergue for the pilgrims who are staying in dormitories ....our hotel is in the same building but very different. We keep seeing the youngsters who are doing the Camino on a budget and feel it is a bit of a different experience. But there's no hope of me walking 25km a day on less than 8 hours sleep and the Camino presents it's own challenges to us all.
