Back to walking 20 kilometres a day and it was a beautiful day. We're just leaving the vineyards of Rioja but still some amazing 360 degree views when you reach the high places. We stopped for lunch at a very well kept golf course and had a beer and tapas overlooking the 18th hole. But what about the photo, you are asking. We are in Santa Domingo del Calzada which has an amazing history and cathedral where there are live chickens. The story goes that some German medieval pilgrims came through the town on their way to Santiago. A local girl lusted after the good looking son but he was v pious and refused her? So in revenge she stole a chalice from the cathedral and put it in his luggage. She alerted the authorities when he was leaving and justice being what it was in those days, he was hanged. His parents went on to Santiago but on their return they were surprised to find their son still hanging in the town but alive. They went to the local magistrate who listened to their story and said your son is no more alive than this chicken I am about to eat. Then, and you might have to suspend some belief here, the chicken came back to life and bit the magistrate on his nose. And the young man lived on and chickens have been kept in the cathedral since then. Fading British tourist towns take note I say. Anyway we watched the very exciting game between Real Madrid and Athletico in a local bar after dinner. Roger had chicken and is hoping for a miracle or two. Disco tracks tonight - Four Tops it ain't nothing but a party and David Bowie Rebel,Rebel.
