Today's photo is the right way up and is of the clock which us just side our bedroom window here in Astorga. The two figures bong the hour which we though was quite amusing this afternoon but it sounds like they are going to bong all night long. Astoria is quite a big town with some local specialities including a stew made with unmentionable part of a pig including the ears , and locally made chocolate - neither of which I've tried. Spanish chocolate is generally rubbish and my sweet cravings are being met by occasional KitKat and Chuppa Chupps - the best lollipops in the world. Most of today's walking was through countryside and Astorga's magnificent cathedral came into sight but it was an hour's dreary walk to get to the centre. Lovely scenery does seem to make the miles pass quickly but some stretches are by roads or through outskirts and you definitely feel more footsore. It's Monday so most things here are closed as they do in Spain. Roger sketched the Gaudi Bishops Palace which is a spectacular building from 1900s. It seems the Bishops never moved in because of a row with Gaudi about the budget etc. genius architects ...what should you do with them? For those worried about Roger's toe after the incident with the Cuban chef, I think all is now well. In fact he's looking pretty fit and healthy. Today's disco tracks are michael Jackson don't stop til you get enough, soft cell tainted love and hot chocolate you sexy thing.

Jan Hi from the other side of Spain - arrived last night to be greeted by a beautiful candle which you left as a housewarming gift. Thank you so much - we ate fresh tuna and gambas by candle light. Still recovering from my 10 k midnight charitywalk round Stratford on Saturday night don't know how you are managing it. It did not help that Sally kept telling me it was a piece of cake compared to the Camino, but the snitterfield stargazers (7 stalwart girls and two dogs) manages to raise nearly £2000. I think it was the shock that I could walk more than just down to the lake and back that did it.
