So we are in Leon after another hot day's walking - some through countryside but about half through the burbs of the city. On the horizon are mountains and some of them are snow covered so I know we are in for some tough up and down walking days in the next week. The walking between Burgos, the last big city and here has not had the charm of the first two weeks. It's a bit like leaving the Cotswolds and walking through Lincolnshire but the next stretch looks much more like rugged Lake District. Leon looks wonderful and yes I've bought a lipstick and some Nivea and am feeling totally glamorous as you will see from the pic of me in the square just outside our hotel. It's a very stylish but odd hotel as it is joined to a monastery so along with the times of the meals are the times for morning prayers and mass in the evening. It's all part of the same building so our very modern rooms have very old religious paintings and statues around. Our evening meal was very bizarre. Chris, please take note. The starters were fairly normal - mixed salad and an egg and vegetable thing, but then we had turkey but a very unusual cut on the bone served with fish croquettes and then we had the local Leon puddings. Mine was a vanilla custard chilled and then friend in a batter chilled again and served with cream. Roger had fried bread in a sweet batter served with sugar honey and cream. Three weeks of exercise undone with a single meal. We've had some problems booking hotels ahead so we are going to stay here two days rather than one. There is a Roman market setting up in the town tonight which will be here for the next few days. Looks like a bit of a food and wine festival and will report on it tomorrow. Today's dance tracks although I now can't move my fat arse from the chair are Santana Smooth, Daft Punk Get Lucky and Prince Raspberry Beret.
