We are already in bed. It's Saturday night and the sub is still shining and there are children playing outside our window . However would have guessed the Camino would mean such early nights. We've rarely been up after 10.30 at night and we sleep until 7 or 8. We do seem to be eating an awful lot too and so much bread, donuts, cakes and bean stews. So all hopes of returning super fit are not happening so say nothing of the beer and wine. We're in Fromista a medium sized town with 4 historic churches. Roger has explained to me the difference between Romanesque and Gothic architecture which seems to involve rounded windows and pointy windows . We had dinner with an Austrian chap tonight who is also an architect and discussed whether our Olympic and World Cup stadiums are the closet we get now to monumental buildings. In English of course because we only have a bit of French and Spanish between us. We did mange more than 25 km today and the day began with a really steep 1 km climb but it finished with the last few miles as you can see in the photo alongside a beautiful canal with yellow irises growing on the sides. Roger has had a final rub down with Voltarol so I guess it's time to finish. Not a phrase I ever expected to use in public. Keep your messages coming - they keep us going. Dancing seems a long way off at the moment, but roger wants Geno by Dexie Midnight Runners and if I've not said it before I'm still standing by Elton john.

Mary I'm rarely up after 10.30pm - not sure what my excuse is but I'm certainly not walking 25km per day. We enjoyed a day at the Hay festival. with a talk by the winner of the Samuel Johnson nonfiction prize Lucy Hughes-Hallett. The Pike. Did Rog like the picture of his poppies in the front garden that I posted on FB the other day? all the neighbours coming round tomorrow, so better get tucked up. Andy Murray at his usual tricks Keep at it!
Mark Jackie and I have been at the Hay Festival too. The stand-out talks were George Monbiot (Re-wilding the landscape), Dr Michael Scott (Dephi) and Simon Jenkins (England's 100 Best Views) - all delivered fluently without any notes. And then on to the Brecon Beacons for what hardly counts as a walk in your terms.
Mark By the way, has something gone a little awry with your progress map? It looks as if you made a sudden diversion south-east to Calatayud. Or was that Roger chasing after the Brazilian girl?
Jan Talking about singing -Stewart and I have just returned from an evening at the Opera watching Peter Grimes - not quite up to Dexie Midnight Runners standards but Benjamin Britten was better than expected. Today was a BBQ in the garden with the Bell clan playing giant Jenga and toasting in the sunshine. Tomorrow it's work! Enjoy the walk xx
Jo Ferguson Jo We have had a beautiful sunny walk around Compton Wynyates and Epwell today. Enjoyed a cup of tea in a lovely NGS arboretum next door to where Viv and Hank lived. 25ks sound exhausting. No wonder you need the voltarol Roger xx
