TODAY! a seriously awesome field trip to the GlenDronach Whiskey Distillery.. purely educational of course! you know microbial activity in the making of the whiskey all that yeasty goodness.. So it was about an hours drive from Aberdeen and the drive was beautiful and fun! THE BUS HAD TABLES INSIDE!!! WOAH cool :) and so it was quite a small group only about 20 of us and Zac, Sarah R., Hedda (whom I absolutely adore! I hope one day I will be as cool as she is!) and Graeme Nicol. It was a great trip over and I admit we were all a bit loud but we were excited and I'm sure that the awesome Dr.'s with us got to learn more about us than they wanted to know.. I hope they realise that this is how the deeside trip is going to go too.. lots and lots of bonding/gossip time.. So the distillery was really really cool and too bad I couldn't take too many pictures but I didn't want to break the rules and we got tastes of the whiskey too.. one sip almost knocked me on my ass but thats alright we had someone to drink ours that didn't get finished. lol.. we were supposed to watch a DVD about the distillery but Zac was in the room.. what does that mean? nothing that has anything to do with technology works.. I feel a research experiment coming on! lol but it was just super awesome to share a uniquely scottish thing with my new friends here.. Susie, Olu, Laura and Alex.. you guys are the bees knees and I love you! :) OH speaking of the cats meow... The washback tanks are made from Oregon Pine! So just as Scotland may have made the world.. Oregon State has invaded it! We have Oregon State University made wave sensors off of our coast too! But being in the distillery kinda reminded me of something from Willy Wonka.. the origonal.. and someone asked why the doors were so low and tiny and the first thing that came to my mind? oompa loompas.. what a dork! by the by if you want a look at the distillery.. heres a link: http://www.glendronachdistillery.co.uk/index.php
So I'm still doing lab work.. which I'm doing so much of it I am kinda forgetting about my other homework.. which now I'm freaking out about because its all due next friday and I'm in the lab for long hours every day babysitting a grown man who can't use a digital scale.. Its one thing to not know how to do something in the lab.. just ask.. but its another to lie about your experience and then make potentially harmfull decisions.. harmful to research, to other people and especially to the university. Moral of the story.. Do not pour Bariumchloride into a graduated cylander over your head while not wearing gloves or safety goggles... I didn't do that.. the person I am babysitting did that.. he and I have had quite a discussion this week while we've been couped up in the lab together.. but I dont think he's very happy with me telling him that he needs to double check and be super safe for the sake of everyone. anyway.. enough of that.. I shouldn't even be b****ing about it but its not easy to deal with all the time.. especially when they say things that are mean and offensive.. I seriously am tyring to just deal with it.. I promise..
Anyhow enough of that.. I have my interview for the PhD position on friday at 1pm.. I'm scared and excited.. this is a strange combination but nothing hopefully that I can't handle. but anway that is my worry for tomorrow night.. tonight I need to get some rest so i can get up early.. get to town. get some sheet music and go to an appt. and then have lunch with sarah and be in the lab by 230... whenever I'm done with that I have to bury myself in the computer lab and potentially just stay at cruickshank most of the night so I can get some work done.. glarg.. OK.. goondnight world
