Well, devoted fans and groupies.. I am still dieing of this cold I've got that I'm pretty sure now is a sinus infection but I'm not as dead as I was yesterday. A lot has been going on in the past couple weeks that I haven't written anything.. My birthday was freaking awesome! My flatmates made me an amazing cake!! Well actually it was Anthonettes first cake that she has ever made! and it was super tasty!!! I believe I added some photos of it. It ended up being half Victoria sponge cake and half chocolate cake.. sounds weird I know but it was very good! and it had strawberry jam and butter cream in the middle with royal icing on top! oh and not to mention flying rabbits with lots of rabbit poop on the ground and other little cute things made out of sugar on my cake.. they are so sweet! Next its Rachel's birthday and Becca and I already have her cake planned! But I can't tell you what it is because she may read this.. then where would we be? So anyway, for my birthday I made everyone pancakes and french toast for breakfast. And then we went to Codona's which is down at the beach. we played indoor congo adventure golf and then Rachel and I screwed around the funfair for a while before going home to get ready to go out.. the girls took me out to the pub for my birthday night and it was A LOT of fun!! Also Honman came out to have a drink which was super awesome. He's a sweetheart! Its my best foreign birthday ever!! granted its the only foreign birthday I've ever had but it was the best!!!
My field trips have been amazing!! Its really great to get out of Aberdeen (by the way which is efing huge!) and get out into the shire.. On one of our field trips we went to Elgin. It is pretty much in the middle of the country and we looked around at soils all day.. we also saw an AMAZING spodosol/Podzol that had actually been buried.. Cameron has been promising me the picture he took of it but has not so far delivered. I'll bother him about it again on Monday. Its really disappointing that the men in my life can't deliver.. HAH! Just this past week we went to Cairn O'Mount. It was pretty much amazing! I didn't get many pictures because there was too much "activity" going on. but we did see an extremely awesome raised beach and I got my first peat experience.. yep.. I was a peat virgin.. but it wasn't a very good peat example however, it was pretty much peatgasmic. yeah you read me right. It sucked that I was sick for the entire field trip but at least I went.. I was thinking about getting an excuse for the fieldtrip because I was really ill.. But I pushed through it and it was great! we went all over the country side looking at some cambisols and of course some podzols but that raised beach was most impressive! it had silt caps on it and all of the rocks were rounded and orientated vertically. I'm so glad I came here.. I'm seeing such cool stuff that I dont think i would have seen if I stayed in the States..
Things I don't like about being here with their problems solved:
- Money... you would think that a soda costs the same here.. but what costs me $1.25 back home is like 3 bucks here.. Problem Solved.. no more drinking soda
- Mustard: its super strong here problem solved... I found one place that carries frenches yellow mustard! YAY!
- Carls Junior. EVERYWHERE SHOULD HAVE ONE OF THESE! problem solved.... no more fast food for me
- Bus Schedules: they have an excellent transit system here.. but what it says online isn't always what it actually is.. hence waiting 45 minutes last night in the cold to catch a bus into town. problem solved... Just walk.. you'll get there quicker.
- Things aren't called the same and are sometimes hard to find.. problem solved.. Ask Kelly.. she's from New York and has been here in the UK for about 6 years.. she is my product translator.
- WRB (World Reference Base soil classification).. its ridiculous.. problem solved... get rid of it.
- Strange guys you meet at the bus stop.. problem solved.. stop being so damn hot.. lol
Last night I went out with the environmental sciencey geeks! I LOVE MY GEEKS!! they're not really geeks but they are sciencey like me.. and I consider myself a geek so if they're as cool as I am.. they're geeks... Sexy, Funny, Awesome Geeks! But I wasn't going to go out because I'm sick.. However Honman said that if I didn't go he would be sad.. and that just made me sad.. I dont want to be the cause of someone being sad.. So I stopped arguing with myself. threw clothes on and got out of the house.. Honman and Aoife walked me home which was nice because I am on the way to their places anyway. Like I said.. I love my geeks. especially handsome ones :) HUZZAH! I mean what?
This weeks findings
- potato leek soup: in the pouch (like bachelors) its really tasty.. but Heinz soup.. it looks and tastes pretty much like snot. I had to stop eating it because I started thinking about what I was blowing out of my nose.. I essentially was eating a bowl of leeky potato snot.. ewww.
- steak pie pretty much the most amazing thing ever!
- Neds, Chavs, and Guidos they're everywhere.. in every culture.. except Chavs/Neds here don't fake and bake and wear girls shirts.
Slang of the week:
- Faff: my gramma does this like a pro.. its like screwing around or finding something to do when your'e suppossed to be doing something else. like if she said that we're going to the store.. she will find somehting else to do for like 45 hours before we go.
- Bampot: a crazy person. :)
