TODAY was awesome.. I had an audition for the Gilbert and Sullivan society today and I only got to sing half of my song before they stopped me.. Not because I was bad.. but both the music director and the director said that within the first lines they had heard enough to know that I was good. Then they proceeded to ask me where I was when they were casting parts. They also wanted to know all of my musical background and went on telling me that and I quote "If you are that good when you are sick, I can't wait to hear you when you are well" and "you have an amazing register and range, why aren't you in the opera society?" to which I replied that no one had emailed me back.. "your voice goes very well with this song (An Die Musik) how long have you been working on it?" to which I replied "today and half of yesterday" I knew the melody but I didn't know the german.. and I didn't know the melody that super well so actually I have been using the piano on my ipod Touch for the past day to try to figure out all of my parts.. and it didn't help that I still have a cold. blargle :"( oh well.. So needless to say I am slightly embarased by those compliments and I'm glad that it wasn't infront of a s*** ton of people. that would have been even more embarassing :( but I am trying to take it with grace and be humble..
Also good things that happened today! I started Stats class... not necessarily good but I'm trying to be positive. I officially have one class done (except I dont know my marks yet). Also I got an invitation by the British Council to go to a reception in Edinburgh for my Saltire Scholarship. Its on the same day that I have a big field based soil survey field trip but I've gotten permission from one of my program coordinators for me to miss my class and travel the 3 hours by bus to get to Edinburgh. Super nice of him. Needless to say I'm super excited! Plus its all free for me! AND its going to be held at the National Museum of Scotland!!!! This is what he wrote :
Dear Alyssa
Thank you so very much for bringing this to our attention in good time.
The Saltire Fellowship is indeed prestigious and I would be anxious to suggest to Zac that in this case we excuse you from the fieldtrip and the tutorial. I am anxious that we find later opportunities for other survey work in the short and long term. I will suggest ideas to Zac before we formally give you the nod to be absent but I would recommend your plan the trip,
Regards
Graeme
