Day 73 - Thu 31 May - Weedons to Amberley Beach

We had arranged to visit our friends at Halswell this morning so tried out the new GPS. All went well till we got to major roadworks on the Akaroa road and missed our turnoff. Never mind - we got back on track and had a lovely morning catching up since we saw them 2 years ago.

Then it was back to Weedons to hook up and head north. We drove on the completed motorway near the airport that was being constructed last time we were down here. We had a great run up to Amberley Beach camp. There were quite a few on the 'dog' side of the camp but not as many on the other side we went to. Several extras came in overnight though.

Day 74 - Fri 1 June - Amberley Beach to Hanmer Springs

Several 'sleeper' vans came in late but not too many doors slamming. Rather them than us at this time of the year - it can't be very cosy sleeping in a car/van! We didn't waste much time getting away this morning and arrived at Hanmer Springs Park just after 11am. It was muddy in places but we found a good spot on shingle. After lunch we went into town for a lovely hot soak, enjoying the hydrotherapy jets and the view of the mountains with snow on above the town. There are probably about 25 rigs in here tonight.
