The kids are starting to wake up early now, around 7am, making it difficult for Nick and I to sleep any later - and the flies didn't help! I got up and read in the annex for a while until Nick came round and the day was already very warm and still. We had coffee, played a few April Fool jokes on the kids and had a slow breakfast, then got stuck into schoolwork. We have had three days in a row of solid education and the kids' work shows the effort. When we have a few days off to travel or explore the kids are not nearly as sharp and you have to waste a fair bit of time repeating lessons already learnt. We have decided to focus on times tables this year and by the time we get back if it is the only thing they can recite then we will be happy! I made lunch while Nick packed away the annex and then we set off in the car again for Inverloch. We spent the entire trip saying the two times tables and even Anna had it down pat by the time we arrived. Katharine had to recite her threes and fours!! We parked at the surfing beach and spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and playing in the sand. Something started splashing about in the water at one point and some people thought it was a shark and others thought it was a dolphin - we kept swimming regardless! As the sun went down we all got changed and then headed into town to the launderette. We put the bathers on to wash and then got take away fish and chips and burgers and ate them in the park, staying there until the washing was all dry. It was after 7pm before we began to head home by which time the kids got into their pjs and went to bed. We had to finish off The Killing before we could go to sleep!
