Day 19 Calzadilla to Sahagun 22 kms in constant rain.
A real draught breaker today. Good for the farmers. We are likely to have rain tomorrow. And possibly more at weekend in Leon.
I started walking with Victor and Lisette and finished the day with Billy and Laurie. Victor and Lisette were both born in Cuba but live just out of Houston. He is an oil and gas engineer. Billy and Laurie are counsellors and missionary trainers and mentors. I really enjoy being with them they are kind positive people.
I felt really good today and walked at a good pace in a good mood for all but the last 2 kms when my feet were getting sore. I gave my boots a reprieve today and am now lying on a hotel bed 29Euros trying to keep betadine off the white cotton sheets. Another night of luxury but could not face a dormitory and no way to dry wet clothes and boots.
We had a lovely pilgrims menu for lunch. Broccoli and goat cheese soup follow by roast lamb peppers and roast potato with cheese cake for dessert and wine included 12Euro so will only have something light for dinner.
Today in the St James arch in the photos which was just on the way in to Sahagun was marked the halfway point on the camino for those who started at St Jean. My half way point will be reached tomorrow or the next day. That is quite amazing.
I am happy.
