Had a really fantasic day today and the first part was pretty much a surprise! Me, Whytey and Amy were meeting up with Whyteys family friends who live in Sydney. We thought that we weould just be going for a coffee or maybe some lunch with them but we actually ended up going surfing! The mum (whose name I cant remember, will ask Whytey if I remember!) came and picked us up from Beckys flat and took us to where they lived on the North side of the city. When she picked us up she asked if we were ready for the beach so we had to run back up the stairs to grab our bikinis, she hadnt wanted to tell us before that we were going surfing in case we chickened out lol!
We stopped off at their house on the way to the beach and it is totally massive! Its all open planned and really brightly decorated, totally loved it! There we met up with her husband, who has taken up surfing in the past few years and is really enthusiastic about it, and her daughter Joanna, or Jo as she likes to be known. Then we headed off to the beach, Joanna drove us and the parents went in a seperate car with all the surfing stuff. We had to stop off on the way to pick up Amys stuff as she lived round the corner from them. So we were heading round to Freshwater Beach, dont let the name fool you tho it is still salty water! Jo drove us in past Manly beach so the girls could see Manly and then we headed a bit further round to Freshwater.
When we got to the beach we took all the stuff down with us but unfortunately there didnt appear to be much surf happening. However me and Whytey did head into the sea with Jo and her dad. It was actually really good because tho it appeared to be really calm there were a few tiny waves. It ment we could get used to being on the waves on the surf boards. Now I dont know if you remember my last attempt of surfing away back in September but it wasnt very good and to be honest I was a little bit scared of it! However this was actually really good as the waves just gradually got a bit bigger. Was so excited when I managed to get onto my knees on the surf board, never managed to do that before! I even managed to get on my knees and do the surfing arms lol! Next step was to make it up onto my feet, however this did take slightly longer! Whytey actually managed it first and stayed up all the way in, she did however nearly take out a wee boy who happened to be in her way, dont think she realised ur suppose to fall off the board if u r heading for someone lol! I did manage a couple of times to get up on my feet but I didnt quite manage to get my balance and fell off. We actually ended up going further down the beach where the waves were a bit bigger, felt like a total surfer chick walking down the beach in my bikini carrying a surf board lol!
I did keep on trying to stay standing up on my surf board but always fell off after a few seconds! Dont think I was standing far enough forward on the board but when i tried lying a bit further up the board I totally nose dived off the board when the wave came up behind me! Now when u nose dive u go forward off the board under the wave while the board shoots up into the air, its then dangerous when you resurface and the board is coming down, u really have to hope that it doesnt come down on your head! Think I might have been rather amusing to watch if am honest! Did fall off at one point and ended up sitting sideways on the board and surfing it in! When I gave up with the surfing I could feel the bruises already coming up on my knees, which felt rather stiff!
However while I was sitting on the beach with Amy (who never went in at all) and the mum we could see a storm coming in. Now u would not believe the speed at which it arrived, it all went really dark and then the torrential rain started and we all ran for the car! I've not seen rain like this for a long time, was incredible! So we headed back to their house where we had a shower and some lunch. They then ran us back into the center in time for our bridge climb.
The bridge climb was amazing! We got kitted out with all this gear and had the sexiest jump suits I think i've ever seen! There was a group of 5 guys who were also in our big group that was going up and we thought there would be some pretty good banter with them but for some reason they were pretty dull, however me Whytey and Amy had some pretty good banter and had soem pretty funny pictures taken. We were doing the Bridge Explorer Climb whish ment that we climbed through the middle of the bridge and then when we got to the middle we climbed up to the top! The views across the city were absolutly amazing. However literally as we got to the very middle of the bridge it started raining again and it was torrential again! However this didnt even dampen our spirits and we even had some funny photos of us taken with our cagools on.
So we made it back safely even tho we were all a little bit damp. I did end up buying a montague of 3 photos from the climb as they were really good and also a red bridge climb hoodie, but think i needed this as i dont hav a hoodie out with me, at least that was my reasoning! Had a wee hot chocolate to warm us up and then went down to the Orient for some post climb drinks and some dinner.
