Had to get up super early today to go on a wine tour of the Hunter Valley. I went with me roomies Beccy, Sarah and Lydia. It was so much fun! Our bus driver who took us round was hillarious and totally ripped it out of everyone, and each of the people who spoke to us at the wineries were also really good fun. The first winery we went to was the Iron Gate. This guy was hillarious and was telling us about this method of making wine called tea bagging, so obviously Lydia (being American :P) started laughing (she balmes this on Sarah) and the guy was like care to explain why ur laughing! So this made me and Beccy totally buckle with the laughter we were trying to keep in! Thankfully she decided not to share, but the guy said he had asked another girl and she had totally come out with it lol! This guy has his own winery, where he actually makes the wine out the back of the place and we got a wee tour of that which was interesting. Bought a couple of wee wine pourer things which mean the wine doesnt drip when u pour it-this means Dad u dont hav to lick the side of the bottle of wine anymore lol!
The second winery wasnt as good i didnt think. A lot of the wines we tried seemed to be qite young and not hav that much flavour (lol i am a total wine conosour now!). After that we went for our lunch at the Hunter Valley Gardens. This is also where the McGuigan Wine Cellar Doors are so obviously i had to go! We tried a riduclous number of wines which were actually all pretty good. Ended up buying a bottle of Chardonay for the fam when i come home, cant wait and hope it makes it home in one piece :S
The third winery was lovely, she let us try some special wines that werent on the list and we even got to hav some bubbles which was lovely! Would definately recommend doing one of these tours if anyone is in the area as they r good banter and u get lots of free wine to try!
