Today we were up early and I got to try out Olvidar; the Panaderia owners pastries and wow what a treat they were: caramel, membrillo and chocolate stuffed goodness with icing sugar and crispy pastry. I was lucky that Sonia was there to share them with me otherwise I would have eaten them all to myself. Sonia had a few things to do in the morning so I went for a walk around the city hoping to find some new walking shoes. I came across a nice park and as the sun was beating down and I am looking a bit pasty I decided it was the perfect time to get a new sun tan. Around 2pm I headed back to the house and grabbed a quick lunch before deciding I would try make the 5pm free walking tour happening in the city. I took the bus in and it almost would have been quicker to walk with the traffic here but in the end made it to San Martin Plaza where the meeting point for the tour was. A girl called Vicky was the guide and there was about 15 people in the group - we were very slow to start giving the late comers an extra 30 minutes before we started. Within twenty minutes I was ready to leave; we were standing in the hot sun and Vicky wasn't even talking about the area or Argentina so I gave it another hour and it actually got worse so I left and went on my own walking tour. The city is huge and I really didn't grasp that concept until I had to traverse across it looking for monuments and points of interest. I came across the very famous Obelisk located in the heart of downtown - basically just a huge spear in the middle of an avenue. I then found Corrientes Avenida the street I was staying on and headed back to the house - the address was at 5500 and I started at number 1 thinking it would only take me 30 minutes but how wrong I was. The Acenue was huge and in the end took me well over an hour and a half to get back to Sonia's and by this point I was so tired and hungry I could barely think. It was however interesting looking at all the shops and all the different people that come out at night along this busy avenue. For dinner I wanted to make something easy so we got some salad and made a ceasar salad - I have been teaching Sonia to cook and so every night I am coming up with something simple and tasty to show her. Sonia had some great news- she had just been given the all clear from her gymnastic school to take 6 months leave so we celebrated with a really good Argentinian wine. The meal, the food, the night was perfect and we talked all night once again into the early hours of the morning.
