Today I was up early to say goodbye to Karina and thank her once again for her wonderful hospitality. For breakfast i had the dessert Karina had made lastnight: Turron de Vino and wow it was delicious but incredible sweet and i can tell i will be nursing a soar belly for the rest of the day. After packing the last of my things I walked to the bus stop and caught the bus into the city. My big toe has been hurting when I walk for about a month now and I am pretty sure it's the family curse: Bunions - and unfortunately they are very painful and usually only fixed with surgery. I have to buy new shoes for my Patagonia hike so hopefully I can get some that will ease the pain of the bunion. I made it to the bus station with 45 minutes to spare so I sat around waiting for the bus to turn up; when the bus arrived I was a little shocked as it wasn't one of the luxurious buses I have become used to in Chile. Don't get me wrong it was ok but no TV, no reclining seats, a rough toilet and single story. They did however have a bus attendant that immediately asked me if I had receipt for my Argentina Reciprocity fee (they have had trouble before with foreigners not having) after showing him and the bus driver they were happy and it was time to go. Straight up they served everyone on the bus a warm cup of tea and some sweet biscuits (a nice morning treat). The initial bus ride was quite slow and with a 40 minute stop in Osorno it was obvious this was going to be a long day. Lunch came and the bus attendant brought around bread rolls with cheese and more tea and coffee - not bad considering there wasn't supposed to be any services onboard. We made it to the Chilean boarder and after about an hour wait in line everyone on the bus had there exit stamps and it was time to drive another 40 minutes to the Argentinian boarder. We drove through the Mountains and the scenery was absolutely breath-taking with not a cloud in the sky and the sun reflecting of the mountains. The Argentinian boarder crossing was much quicker even though i had a small problem with my Visa receipt document they were able to sought the problem in 5 minutes and once again we were on our way. So it has taken 5.5 hours to cross into Argentina and I am guessing we will have about 24 hours of driving in Argentina ahead of us - oh and surprise surprise some TVs have been folded down on the bus however the movies are in Spanish with no subtitles. The scenery in Argentina going through the mountains is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen with huge pines and conifers covering Rocky Mountains. We crossed through many picturesque towns with all buildings made from wood (very American) and absolutely buzzing with life because of the summer holidays. We made an hour stop for dinner at some far out of the way diner but it had only crappy food so most people passed and just enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying the scenery. When we boarded the bus again a new movie was out on and thankfully this one was in Englush however as we travelled into the night the scenery became even more magical with a fiery red sunset, violet purple clouds and would you believe a full moon on the horizon. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever witnessed oh and this was at 10:30pm (the further south we go the later the sun sets). Although the seats did not fully recline I did manage to find a few semi-comfortable positions and get some sleep.
