We have just got back from the city's botanical gardens, where we were watching the Scissor Sisters concert that was part of my birthday present from Jen.
It's a great venue for a concert as the stage is tucked away in a clearing in the trees on a bend in the river and the ground slopes down to the stage and because of the elevation, there are great views no matter where you are standing. The whole thing is organised so differently from any concert we've been to at home, as they check your ID as you walk in and if you are over eighteen then you get a fluorescent wrist strap that allows you access to the 'over 18's only' section where the bar is. Even if you are clearly much older than eighteen (i.e. parents who had taken their kids) without any proof, there are no wrist straps.
When we got to the park we could see this holy section that is so craved after and there was more security checking wrist bands before letting people through. We headed to the bar for a drink and even from here there were great views of the stage with the river behind it and the Kangaroo Point cliffs lit up by the street lights in the background. We could even make out a few silhouettes climbing up and down the rock face.
The concert itself was great, with Sneaky Sound System doing a great supporting set before the Scissor Sisters took to the stage. The songs were really well performed, the lead signers were quite funny and the atmosphere was great. Once it had finished we slowly walked back across the Goodwill Bridge and along South Bank to our apartment, where we are now both knackered and ready for a well deserved kip!
