After another stint of driving up the coast on Saturday morning we stopped at a little place called Rollingstone and found one of the best campsites we have stayed in since we have been away. The whole area is surrounded by water with the camping areas all along the ocean front and a manmade lake next to the kitchen and bbq area that also flows between all the cabin areas.
We decided to put our tent up right next to the edge of the beach and soon realised why everyone else had opted to put their tents up fairly near each other amongst the trees, as the wind started and our tent took a battering. We're not sure whether it was the wind or just our impatience to get the tent set up so we could go for a look around, but either way we managed to snap one of the main poles in the process, so a quick repair job was needed with some trusty black tape before we could peg it down.
Once everything was finally sorted out as best it could be, we moved the car around to offer some more protection from the elements and headed to the pool. In keeping with the rest of the campsite, the pool had a little waterfall we could cool down under as well as enough room to actually swim in (sounds stupid, but this isn't always the case). We spent much of the day lounging around enjoying the sun when it came out, before calling it a day and discovering a toilet and shower block that was so bright we needed to wear sunglasses to have a wash!
We awoke yesterday morning to find that our tent had survived the night in one piece and decided to celebrate with a relaxing day by the pool so that we could make the most of the resort-like facilities, as it will be some time before we can afford anything similar again!
This morning we packed up the tent once more and completed the final leg of our journey back up to Cairns, where we will be staying for the next week or so while we complete a scuba diving course out on the Great Barrier Reef.
