Soongies' Great Adventure
Time to leave Heswall and the comforts of our 2nd home at Ric*************a's and proceed onwards with our travels. Fiona and Barnaby drove us to Chester train station where we caught our first train of the day to Crewe. We had a quick snack of a croissant and a hot drink while waiting for our next train to Stafford. Both of these trains were quite busy so we stood in entrance area of the carriages with all our bags. Thankfully, we didn't have to stay on those trains for too long and we're able to get a seat on our next train from Stafford to London Euston. All in all, it was about 3 hours and 15 minutes train travel so far. Once we got to London it was a quick run around the city. We left our bags at the left baggage service in Euston and split up for different appointments for routine bloods. Calvin hopped on a tube to Clapham to see a doctor and then caught an overground to Kings College Hospital to the phlebotomist. Then it was a bus and tube back to Euston. No charge - thanks NHS! Meanwhile Kate had made her way on the tube to Oxford Circus (stopping to grab a few sushi sandwiches from Wasabi on the way) to a Harley Street clinic for her phlebotomist (although her phlebotomist had a radiographer badge on her gown!). We met back at Euston to collect our luggage before throwing ourselves back into the peak hour rush to get to Paddington station. Lugging big, heavy bags around London's transport station is fairly exhausting - especially during peak hour! We bought our tickets at Paddington and had 5 minutes to run to the other side of the station to the last platform to catch the train to Maidenhead. Another 45 minutes on the train. John Roberts picked us up from Maidenhead and it was a short drive back to home where Linda was waiting. We had a nice evening and a good catch up with John and Linda over a dinner of tasty slow cooked beef and vegetables. We had gotten John and Linda a set of Bananagrams as a thank you present so we brought that out and taught them the game before going to bed after an exhausting day of travelling.
