Wednesday we drove north to the eight mile beach, this is as far north as you can go on this coastline. Rose did a little snorkelling and we went for a long walk along the beach and found a lot of different shells.
On the way back we went down a sand track and came across two goats sparring. We saw heaps of goats, generally in their families with a male, female and a couple of kids. At one stage there were three quite young kids that came dancing up to our van. Also saw a number of kangaroos and quite a few sheep. Many of the sheep look like hybrid sheep goats.
We passed through Gnaraloo Station homestead where there are now a lot of camping facilities. It was an interesting trip through the bush.
Back to Three Mile camp for the night and had another long walk along the beach and a beautiful sunset.
Yesterday we started the trip back towards Carnarvon keeping to the tracks along the coastline wherever possible. Not far along we stopped to have a fish and caught four fish that made a very nice meal. We saw many sheep/goats and kangaroos as we made our way through the bush. Went into Red Bluff and had a look around, this is another camping spot however no dogs allowed. Just out from here a bit Rose spotted a tree absolutely covered in green budgies a fantastic sight.
As we went along looking for a spot to fish and camp for the night we went through some pretty hairy sandhills. Got to a spot where we saw other 4wd's had had a look and turned around so I walked the track for a way and decided our chances were just as good to keep going through than to turn around and have to go back the way we had been. It turned out that we got through without too much trouble.
Eventually went down a track along the cliff face to a flat spot close to the water. I did wonder wether we were going to have trouble getting back up, however this morning we were able to make our way out of there okay. Around the coast we could see the ship loading facility where they load salt and gypsum, there was a ship being loaded that left during the night.
We got up this morning had breakfast and then threw the line in, they bit straight away. we got a bit over a dozen Green Wrasse before stopping to scale, gut and head them. They are now in the freezer ready to give us a few meals. They are the most beautiful fish to look at and should make beautiful eating.
We headed back along the sand tracks wherever possible and passed through Quobba Station where they also have camping facilities.
Back to Carnarvon and in the Carnarvon Caravan Park, set for the market in the morning and a good clean up before heading on. We've had a really good week.
