Sunday morning we went to the 9am service at the C3 Church (Christian City) in South Hedland and enjoyed it so much that we returned for the 10.30 service and were given a free lunch from their cafe, it's normally $5 and $2 for sweets, it was really nice and with a cappucino, nice. We met some really friendly people, it was a great day. We were then invited to a John Bevere DVD session in the evening. Their 47 year old Pastor David was sporting a broken collar bone, he had come off a quad bike while doing donuts, he also broke 6 ribs and punctured a lung, pretty lucky really.
Did our washing in the afternoon using a tap at Pretty Pool, a very pretty beach area, we were surrounded by a heap of back packer types, it was interesting. We must be quite a sight with me running out ropes from the van to anything I can and hanging the sheets and all to dry. We returned there in the evening with the intention to camp but there were a heap of young french people playing very loud music so we shifted to the race track and had a pretty good night. French back packers have a very bad name, generally just for being obnoxious but also for stealing big time. An article in the local paper told how they said after being caught that they had heard Australia was an easy place to steal. We heard a similar story from a young shop assistant and also the German back packers we had been with strongly disliked the French. It's interesting how a whole country can get a reputation.
Back to the visitors centre this morning for a shower, then shopped up and refuelled and filled with water. It's interesting how alert Rose and I are to taps, water is so hard to come by that it is a real bonus to find a tap that we can put our hose on. The service station taps have a special arrangement so as you can't put a hose on and can only get a small amount at a time.
It was a good drive through to Marble Bar, the hottest town in Australia (28c today) in the largest Shire in the world so they proclaim. Coming to Coongan Gorge we had to use Channel 8 on our two way radio as the road trains with 4 trailers come through one at a time. we had to wait for one to come through then the one in front let us through, it;s quite a windy gorge and quite scenic.
In the caravan park tonight, $20 unpowered, we still haven't plugged into electricity since we left home.
