Camped in the bush alongside a creek about 50kms west of Leonora tonight.
It's been a big day, started with a bit of shopping then fuelled up ready to head into the northern gold fields.
We headed out to Menzies about 100kms to the north of Kalgoorlie, with a few detours along the way. We weren't all that impressed with the place, had a look around and had lunch. Then headed out the gravel road to Lake Ballard where there are these sculptures spread about the lake. There are 51 of them, we walked to 12 out on the lake, some of the way on slippery lightly salted mud and some in ankle deep water. A hot but interesting walk. By the time we came back Ellie was very pleased to be out of the water. The sculptures are thin and look like they are cast out of steel, we saw 7 female ones and 5 male ones, interesting perception of people. It would be a long hot walk to see them all.
Then went a bit further on to the look out at Snake Hill, looks out over Lake Ballard. Then on to Copperfield and Mt Ida, not much left at either of these places. Kept going towards Leonora and at one time we saw a family of Donkeys, some Kangaroos and some Cattle all within a couple hundred metres.
Eventually decided to pull up at a camp site with a toilet on the side of the road, nice spot but lots of Mossies.
