The Willie Creek pearl tour was both a good experience and educational. Went to the Mango farms at the twelve mile on the way back into Broome. Stopped in the carpark at Malcolm Douglas wildlife park where Rose made lunch.
Booked into the Pistol Club which had just been opened as an overflow caravan park.
Saturday morning we went to the court house markets, they were very big but quite commercial not really what we would call a good market. We went to Cable beach and were really surprised that you couldn't drive on the beach, the tide was in and right to the top of the beach. So did our shopping ready to go bush for a week.
Then back to Cable Beach in the evening and demolished a kilo and a half of prawns for dinner, very pleasant. It was quite an exciting atmosphere driving along the beach in the dark then picking our way through the rocks at the end. A great evening watching the camels, sunset and dining.
Went to Victory Life church Sunday morning and enjoyed the service and the people. We had lunch with them and had a good chat to the young bloke (17yo) leading the worship, great music by a group of young folk. He was part aboriginal and had a terrific commitment, it was good to be able to encourage him.
We then fueled up and headed out the Dampier Peninsula to Gnylmarrung it's a fair way over a very corrugated road that reduces to a sand track for the last 20 or so kilometers. A nice spot where Grant welcomed us even though we didn't have a booking. All camping spots are very full, fortunately we don't need a lot of real estate.
Had a good day today, a big walk around the coast one way in the morning and the other in the afternoon with Rose cooking a beautiful beef roast in the shade on beach for lunch.
We bought a cast net before we left Broome and have been studying up how to use it so had our first try today. After a few goes on the beach I had a throw in the water, first cast I got 20 to 30 small fish about 3 inches long, would have been good bait but let them go. A good day.
