Was up around 6:45 as had to be at the dive school for 7:45 so polished off yet another toasty and did a final pack of all my gear and dumped it into reception, took a hasty walk to the dive shop as I was running a wee bit late, when I arrived I signed in and then got all my gear together, first cold water dive so was given a 2 piece 7mm wet suit, it was like wearing a polar bear! When I had all my gear together in my dive bag we bundled it in the back of the trailer and then took a 40 min drive to the boat which would take us to the Rainbow Warrior wreck, had a quick stop off for a photo at a view point and then got the boat where we got kitted up and jumped on the boat and shot off out the bay towards the wreck, it was a mid size rib so was pretty nippy when it got going, in no time at all we were at the dive spot so us wreck divers hopped in the water and got down fairly quickly to the wreck, we did a swim around the bottom and then over the top into an opening and did a couple swim throughs which was incredible, tons of wild life and the boat itself was just so good! We came up the other side and my buddy was low on air so the instructor took him up and I buddied up with another pair and we had a little swim around before heading back to the safety line and heading up, we chilled out for our 3 minute safety stop and then got back to the boat after an amazing dive. We then went to a beach for lunch and soaked up the sun to warm up a bit, when we were finished lunch we got back on the rib and shot off to a little bay where me and a guy called Jack buddied up and went off on our own (I lead the dive, whoop!) we went down to the bottom and headed for the rocks then followed them around until we found a cave which we ventured into and then followed it all the way back until it was pitch black which was a creepy yet incredible sensation, after a bit of time milling about the cave we headed out and were travelling at super speed with the current rushing out the cave, man that was fun! We followed the cliff around and I hit up a few gully swim throughs and checked out the wildlife, saw a massive scorpion fish which looked pretty mean, when we hit around 100 bar we turned around and headed back, managed to get us really near the boat which I was happy with, then hit up a spot of snorkelling while the others finished up and did a super cool reverse boat re-entry! When everyone was done we shot off back to shore and on route we even managed I spot a pod of dolphins which was a cool end to a fun dive trip. We got changed and got the bus back to Paihia where I had a quick shower and decided to start hitching, after about 15 mins a couple stopped and dropped me just outside of town where I could get a hitch easier, with about 20 mins 2 other people stopped but weren't going the right place, then a German girl Jaana and American girl Christi picked me up and started driving me south, it was getting a wee bit dark by this point and after a bit of chatting Jaana invited me back to the farm where she au-paired at, she said I could stay the night which was amazing and met the farmer Bevan who was genuinely one of the nicest guys I've met, he made me dinner and Jaana gave me a couple of beers which was decent, we then had a couple hour jacuzzi session which was amazing after cold water diving! It was about 1am when we decided to call it quits (mainly because the jacuzzi was getting a bit chilly) I had my own for the night so got tucked in and dozed off happy as larry!
