Woke up and inspected the food shelf, the fat b****** helped itself to rice and a crisps, eating as well as I do! We decided to move a few things around so put the food in the sealed box and move the pots and pans to the food shelf! We then ate ourselves before getting change and heading down the road to Matamata where we would get picked up from to do our Hobbiton Shire tour!!! I was so excited I could have pooped myself! We were getting picked up from the I-site so drove into town, the my utter and enjoyable surprise the I-site was decorated as a big hobbit hole! (Heart racing already) we had a look around and I bought some postcards and we got our tickets for the shire tour! Shortly after the bus picked us up and dropped us off at the entrance to the shire where after a short wait another bus took us to Hobbiton! We were greeted by our kiwi tour guide who was pretty awesome and she started showing us around the shire! We saw tons of hobbit holes and I went a bit snap crazy and got a ton of photos! They were all different sizes for filming purposes and we learnt a lot about the set. We had a tour around the whole of the shire and saw Bag End and the artificial $1.5 million dollar tree! We then went down to the party field where we went on the see saws and visited Sam's house, we then ventured across the bridge and into the green dragon!! We got a complementary drink here and we found a table near the fire, I then bought a steak and ale pie and shortly after took a slash, I can now say I've drank, eaten and used the toilets in the green dragon pub! We chilled out here a little while and took a few more pics before heading back through the vegetable garden and back to the start of the shire. It was such an incredible couple of hours and one of my favourite things in NZ! We got back to Albert and Katie and I were still pretty buzzing! We then settled down and had a quick lunch before making the short journey down the road to Rotorua, we got there and drove the Combo place where we got our tickets for our activities, zorbing, Maori village and white water rafting! We then went and checked in at base for cheap and shortly after got picked up for our Maori village experience, it literally started on the bus with our bus driver who was potentially the coolest bus driver ever, he greeted us on about 61 different languages and was funny as hell! He got everyone going and gave a talk about the village, he then chose a chief for our bus and put on accents for most counties in the world, we were there in what seemed like no time and straight into the village where we got to see a Maori battle display and the chiefs were welcomed to the village, we then walked through and the first house was the Haka, where I was lucky to get picked and perform the Haka with a couple other guys and the chiefs which was great fun! We then went to the Poi house where a few girls were taught some basic poi skills. After that we went to the games house where a few people played a stick balancing game which actually looked pretty fun! Then we learnt a bit how the Maori people would make clothes, waterproofs and housing before going to the training house where a few people did some footwork training which was a good laugh (mainly because Sarah got chosen) we then went to a Q&A house where we learnt some more about the Maori people, mainly the facial tattoos which were pretty awesome! After that we went through to see the food lifted from the geo thermal earth oven, it looked and smelt amazing and was cooked perfectly, we then went into the meeting hall where the tribe put on an amazing show with music, performance and song, pretty mind blowing! When that was done we watch a short film about the struggles of the Maori people which was also very good and gave us a good insight into their history and hardships. When this was finished we all made our way to the dining hall where the food was being served. After we were seated and had a talk from the chief we filled our plates with the best food I had eaten in about 4 months.. It was literally like Christmas dinner, ate till I was stuffed and then had two 2 desserts and a beer, well and truly satisfied! The chief the sang us a few songs and the night eventually wound down so we made our way back to our bus where we had the same awesome bus driver who got us all singing our national anthems and local songs before busting into nursery rhymes and then going round 2 round about 5 times each whilst sing 'the wheels on the bus' and 'around the mulberry bush' everyone was in fits of laughter, best bus ride ever!!! He dropped us off at base where we thanked him a lot for an incredible night! Katie went straight to bed but Sarah and I went to watch a bit of tv in the hostel, we watched an episode of CSI and then called it a night, set up a couple of traps incase the mouse was still about and with a full belly dozed off into a deep, satisfied sleep.
