Sarah woke me up as our initial idea that the mouse had left was a little off, we got woken up by a nibbling sound in the food shelf, when I went to have a look the mouse must have heard me coming and darted off, but our rice had a hole chewed in it and a few slices of bread was missing their corners... Little s***. We set up some manual traps which were two piles of rice and myself and Sarah with a box each waiting for the mouse to show itself.. Safe to say this didn't work either, firstly Sarah fell asleep and then I got bored and went back to sleep. We kept waking up to rustling sounds but just kept ignoring them until the sun was properly up and the mouse went back into hiding. After the morning routine we left the campsite and headed into town to stock up on supplies and try and get a mouse trap! We got our groceries and also managed to get a couple of mouse traps, we then left town and went to Craters of the Moon which was a pretty decent geothermal park with some mud springs and steam vents that we wanted to check out, spent about an hour here taking a few snaps before saying goodbye to Taupo and heading toward Waitomo, it was a couple hour drive so about half way through we found a decent spot next to a lake and set up and made lunch before hitting the road again. We got to Waitomo late afternoon and the girls checked in for their black water rafting, we then drove down to cave area and waited a bit till dark as we wanted to see the glow worms! We went on a night walk and hit up some caves and tunnels and eventually managed to see a ton of awesome glow worms, they were so much brighter than I thought they were going to be and there were tons of them all overs the ceilings and walls! When we had our fill we headed back to the black water rafting place as the lady told us we were welcome to stay in the car park overnight so we set up base here and then made a quick dinner whilst prepping the mouse traps to catch the little b******. We polished off dinner and played a bit of cards, the girls had an early start so we settled down for the night, Katie dozed straight off again but Sarah and I stayed up a bit to do our blogs/diaries, a little while in I heard a rustling near one of the traps and about 30 seconds later, chink. Boom. Absolutely nailed the food thief! When I went to check the little b****** was still twitching but I scooped him into a bowl and threw him outside and after we had a triumphant talk about it we all went to sleep a little easier and happier that night!
