Waking up this morning without any real idea of timing was interesting. Roderick had a wakey wakey shout out at 5am so up we got. There was quite a bit of tension between Brandy and Brad, and they spent time avoiding one another followed by time talking. Roderick was in cooking duties and informed me that once we had setup this morning that we would be heading into town and meeting Alida. So on daybreak I was packing up my gear and pulling down my makeshift tent etc. had it all packed up and then ate breakie.
I drove 'no doors' it's a 1970s land cruiser and yep you guessed it, it has no doors. After a push start we're away. Used a bandana, as the dust from following the other vehicles would have choked me. It was like being on safari driving into the outback. After much contemplation we finally found a suitable site to set up the two round yards and put in the pickets (waratahs) that would hold the wings up. Once this was done Roderick and I headed back to camp, loaded up the truck with the empty avegas drums and my stuff - including saddle and bridle we headed to Kununurra. We meet up with Alida and Heni (who was leaving in a bus), Pete and Wendy (flying to Darwin) and Tash (flying back to Wales) at the Kimberly cafe. Had a huge lunch and then looked around a couple of diamond places while Alida dropped off the others at the airport.
It turns out that Argyle mine extracts 90% of the pink diamonds world wide every year, in context that wouldn't fill up a champagne flute. The blue diamonds about 1 tablespoon every year. Found a pink worth $465000, which according to the woman in the shop will gain approx 12% in value every year. After 2020 they may go significantly higher as the Argyle mine is closing... making supply and demand even greater. Not a bad wee investment if you had the spare cash to do it! Sadly I don't...
Anyway I meet Alida after she had dropped off the guests, then did a few jobs followed by grocery shopping, then headed back to the station. Saw a bush fire on the way, and got home in the dark. There are 8 guests here for horse riding, so after a long awaited for shave and shower I went out to meet them all and have dinner. Lots of stories and tucked up in bed at 8:30 - an extremely late night considering my current camping regime.
