For those messaging me through this blog - I've loved every message. For some reason every time I try to reply the blog crashes. So in short I'm reading every message and not intentionally being rude by not replying! Love hearing from you, and look forward to sharing many more stories through here and when I return. Once home I will also add a whole lot of pictures to go with it. Takes too much data to upload them all.
So yesterday was a reasonably quiet day. I started off on Rollie who is a great ride. Headed out the north gate and checked on the airstrip gate to make sure it was shut, then spotted a group of horses near by. To my surprise I had found Trixie with four other horses. A little point mare that has shoes on and is supposed to be part of the mustering horses. She escaped out of the home paddock and had been missing, couldn't find her to vaccinate either. She has been elusive since my arrival, so it was great to know that she was alive and well, just in the wrong paddock. Then came home, with a lovely slow soft trot.
The truck was back when I got here and horses were being rounded up, as they wanted to take the six mustering horses to camp. Old carpet was laid on the cattle truck floor so that shoes weren't ripped off and then we loaded them on and they were taken away. Saved a few hours in the saddle for the 40km that I thought that we were needing to ride them...
I then went out with Maddie a standardbred mare with Netty and Heni. Was a nice quiet ride. Maddie seriously battles with coordination in the trot but otherwise she was fine. Spotted a pair of red tailed black cockatoos which was a great sight to behold. Came back home in a bit of pain from the restrain of a groin injury.
Had a pretty relaxing afternoon, went to ride Jill at night however decided I'd give it a miss and try and rest up the groin. See if I can get it right before mustering! At least that's the plan. We also found out that the chopper had cancelled on us, so we can't get a chopper until the 26 June now. So have booked in the 26 and 29 June for chopper work. Means that the horses didn't have to go so early, however there are no plans to bring them back at this stage.
There has been 5 photographers around so they have been busy taking pics of us working the horses etc. hopefully they will email some of them through in due course.
Had an early night - although I did sleep in the sleeping bag... must be acclimatising to Aussie conditions. Means I'm going to freeze when I get back home!
This morning I got up and went looking for Maddie to ride out to the airstrip, only I couldn't find her. Tasha had been down water lily lane on the quad and declared that there were no horses down there. I then went out to the bush hut paddock and did a wander around there only to discover that there were no horses there either. I then grabbed the quad and went north, right around the top end of the paddock and ended up back in water lily lane, where I spotted all the horses. Note to self. Don't ask a short sighted person if he's seen any horses.
