I think I've finally mastered the art of sleeping. A warmer night again but able to sleep - even had weird dreams... stepping out of the tent, within 3 minutes I was battling flies again. Certainly one thing I won't miss heading home!
Sleep in day, as Roderick went home last night to put a couple of shoes back on some horses today, so that Alida can take them out on a trek tomorrow. Our jobs for the day were to fill up the water tank - a pump from the dam, ride horses amongst the cattle in the yards and sort out some brakes in the bull buggy.
We saddled up the horses and Brad, Brom and I headed to the cattle yards. Being wild you never know what you're going to get, these seemed surprisingly quiet, but I guess yesterday put a few restrictions etc upon them. Brad started off riding around them and then splitting them in half. All went well. He then drove them into another yard where Brom and I were. The goal is one rider quietly works a cow out of the bunch and get them to quietly walk across the other side of the yard. They can go one after another but we must be able to stop them from crossing over when we decide. Takes a bit of awareness and responsiveness from the horse as well as the rider. Got the hang of it to a degree. Wasn't completely useless - let's put it that way.
We then rode down to Canteen Hole - which is more of a river but hey semantics. Just got back to camp. Back in shorts and runners as it's pretty warm again.
Headed up to Emma Gorge to do some washing and take Alex up to the waterhole. Brandy, Alex and I went to the waterhole - my second visit. Felt a little warmer this time around. Managed to do a little swimming with one leg kick - I didn't even go round in circles! There has been talk of a fresh water croc up there and we thought we saw it between some rocks, closer inspection we discovered that it was actually a rock! However less than 5min later the 1m croc popped her head up in the water. Too far away to get a clear picture but I can now actually say that I've swam with a croc.
