So today we had only 180KM to travel and it was all on dual carriage way. It was also our first day of lots of traffic lights, round abouts and other cars. To top this off it rained all day making it hard to do anything much.
Before leaving Bunbury we visited the Dolphin Discovery Centre which is maned by paid and volunteer staff. I was really amazed by all the staffs enthusiasm for the place. I was also happily surprised that during the winter months they do not charge you for going into look at the displays. As they said you don't get many dolphins in during the winter months and especially on miserable days like today. The water is far to rough near the beach.
It was fantastic to see the eels and octopus being fed. Also watching and listening to the volunteers who are also being amazed by the sea animals that they work with on a regular basis.
It was interesting to learn that the octupus are from their local waters and only spend about 3 months with them before going back into the sea. This is because the octopus only have short life spans of about 2 years and they want them to have the opportunity to spend their lifes increasing their species. I learnt today that octopus have 9 brains, 1 in the head and 1 at the end of each tentacle. It also has 3 hearts. How to tell the difference between male and females is that the male only has suckers halfway down the third tentacle on the right. Carey and I think we remembered this correctly. The lids on the Octopus aquariums are all locked as they are very good at getting out and one has been found in the cafe.
We left the discovery centre and headed to Perth. I want to know what the weatherman calls showers. We had heavy rain nearly all the way into Perth. From Bunbury to Perth it was a good dual carriage way.
We found our hotel for the next 3 days and settled in. Then had to go to the local mall for late lunch and get some supplies for tea. Realised I hadn't missed going to the shops.
Now settled for the eveing looking forward to watching the movie tonight.
