After a lovely night in Magaret river we decided to head back to Augusta and out to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. Again the weather held up for us. It was cold and windy but at the time the sun was shinning.
We decided to take the tour up the inside of the limestone lighthouse. They have no idea how the lighthouse was built as no plans or journals have been found. Five days ago the light house went over to LED lights. It is the only lighthouse on both the national trust and heritage list that is still operational. We travelled up 39 metres having a rest halfway up for us all to catch our breathe. Our guide was very informative and told us his oldest tourist had been 94 years young and she took 2 1/2 tours to get up and down the lighthouse stairs but she did it.
From the platform at the top we were able to see where two oceans met. The Southern Ocean and the Indian Ocean. What you see is waves breaking in two directions. It was fasinating to watch as they broke against each other.
We then went backdown to the ground and walked around the headland. Looking at the homes the lighthouse famillies were able to live in. There was 3 beautiful homes.
We left Cape Leeuwin and headed back into Augusta for a drink and something to eat. Down came the rai for about 10 minutes. Lucky us
From here we decided to give the caves a miss and head to Busselton so that I could walk the Jetty which is 1841m long and has a train on it.
Firstly we headed back into Magaret River to get a car sticker as we hadn't got one yet. From here the traffic just started to increase in both directions. People coming from the city of Perth for the weekend. Magaret River is the wine district. Not of interest to Carey or I.
We travelled through a small town with many statues of cows. Why you may ask thats the question I asked myself as hadn't read the name of the town as we entered. I found out at the end. The town is called Cowaramup.
Need to find out why so many places have up at the end of them.
We got to Busselton very quickly traffic lights and people everywhere including lots of chinese tourist on bus trips.
Carey came and got a coffee before returing to sit in the car while I walked the length of the jetty with my trusty monkey Sam. Who snuggled up in my coat pocket for warmth. It was a lovely relaxing if not windy walk to the end. Sam and I took photos to prove we did it then headed back to the car.
We all then headed to bunbury for our home for the night at the Bunbury Tourist park. I was expecting to stay in an A frame standard cabin but have found ourselves in a superior 2 bedroom cabin. Definitely not complaining about getting upgrade. So still to experience an A frame cabin at some stage.
So now for a relaxing evening.
