Today we packed up the tent and left Monkey Mia. Even without the dolphins this would be an amazing place to visit.
The day started with a visit from the Emus who managed to pinch my apple in the time I put it down and turned around. Got it back and through it in the bin.
Once the tent was all packed up we headed to the restaurant for breakfast. As it was busy it was going to take 15 minutes to get a coffee. So I headed to the beach and the jetty. The dolphins were well out this morning so didn't really get another experience with them. But instead I got to experience a wild sea turtle swimming around the jetty. He or she relly loved having there photo taken and hung around for a while.
We left Monkey Mia and headed to Denham just to say we had been there. So gad we chose to stay at the Monkey Mia resort. Denham is lovely but not as restful as Monkey Mia. The golf course was rather interesting.
We then headed to Shark Bay to the Ocean Park Aquarium. It was lovely to hear and see the sealife that can be found around that area. Especially liked the nervous sharks. We learnt how important sharks are to the ecology of the sea.
We then went to Shell Beach. The sand is just shells. So easy to walk on and so crunchy. Another interesting experience.
Then we continued onto Overland which again is only a roadhouse. Fueled up and got the necessary coffee for the man. Peppermint tea for me. Also the necessary toilet stop.
We then headed up the highway towards Carnarvon. The landscape changed many times today. We past the turning for Western Australias Gladstone which was a dirt road. So thats 4 states that I know have a Gladstone.
Once we past the Gladstone turnoff we started seeing wild goats. I was surprised as there was no yellow and black sign to tell us there would be goats. The signs we saw were telling us there would be stray cattle but we didn't see one cow.
We then went across a dry flood plain and turned off the highway to enter Carnarvon. We came across traffic. Had to wait to turn right to head to our accommodation for the next 2 nights.
