So after another long drive we reached Broome a town hidden behind bushes. The airport appears to be right in the middle and everything is around it. It is on a small peninsula with some beautiful beaches and rock faces.
We found our accommodation for the next 4 nights. A bungalow bigger than my home surrounded by palm trees. You wouldn't know we are only a 6 minute walk from Cable Beach. When you walk out to the front of the complex all you see is bush.
It is a lovely complex with a heated pool with a spa right outside our bungalow.
The bungalow has washer and dryer. A dishwasher which I haven't used. Still one machine I am not ready to learn to use.
We have been able to explore the town and it has got easier each day. From Cable beach to Broome CBD is only 3.7km but its been fun finding the right roads to get us towhere we wanted to be.
We visited chinatown on our first day here. I had a chakra healing which was fantastic. Carey sat and had coffee while he watched the othertourist. It is all iron buildings. It includes the sun pictures cinema which is the oldest outdoor cinema still operating in Australia. During the day you are allowed to go in and look around. At night they play movies and you pay $17 an adult for the privilege to sit in an old fashioned cinema deckchair to watch a modern movie.
So back we went in the evening to watch the movie Atomic Blonde. A different but interesting movie. The deckchairs were quite comfortable for the 2 hours. We then drove back to the bungalow. Carey managed to get us onto a new housing estate right beside the airport by turning left when we should've turned right. Got to see wildlife in the form of a small kangaroo who jumped in front of the car not just once but 3 times. So on when the navman and we discovered that we should've turned right 2.6km back. We had been km from the bungalow when we turned left. Gave us a good laugh.
Wednesday we visited Gantheaume Point and got our first glimpse of Cable Beach. It was a spectacular view. Gantheaume Point is where on a low tide of less than 2.16 you can see dinosaur foot prints. No luck for us as all the tides are over 3 while we are here. Got to see the mould prints they have put at the lighthuse for you to see what is out under the water. Beautiful rock face for you to climb over at your own risk.
Also got to see a pair of eagles nesting on the lighthouse. A magnificant sight.
We then headed along the dirt road to the otherside of the head of the peninsula to the port. Had a lovely eary lunch of grilled calamarie for me and salmon and chips for Carey. We then went for a walkdown on the beach here. Then back to town and a little mall therapy. We then spent a few hours at the bungalow.
At 2.15 we headed out to Malcom Douglas Wilderness Park to see the crocs in a fairly safe environment. That turned out to be a great educational experience. The tour starts with a safety talk, followed by the pportunity to hold a 9 month old croc which we both did. Then we were educated on the crocs and alligators while watching them being fed chicken carkuses. It was amazing to see how high they can jump and how fast they can move.
Today we went for a walk down to Cable beach while the car was out getting a service. It was nice to watch the surfers and look in the rockpools before heading to the Cable Beach resort and spa bar for a coffee. Came back to the bungalow for a while and a swim after picking up the car. Now to wait for 5 so we can head to the town beach markets.
