Yes this was everything I thought it would be. So glad that we got to see the staircase to the moon last night.
Woke up to a wet morning. THe rain didn't last long and we headed out of Karratha to Cossack, Samson point and Wickham. They are all small towns.
Cossack is actually just a few old buildings left over from the original port town in the estuary. The other towns use the buildings for art shows etc. You can also stay in the old police barracks. The town has a caretaker. The history around the town was very interesting. I think Carey and I enjoyed searching for the parcel drop off point hidden down in the rocks at the beach. Boats were the most used transport in the 1800.
Samson Point is now the port for the ships to come in and get the ore from the local mines. Just a small group of housing and a caravan park. I think population is about 300 plus holiday makers. There local shopping centre is wickham which is 9km away. Mind you its bush between the two. Karratha is only 57.2km away for major shopping.
Wickham is a mining town with population of about 2400 people. It was neat and tidy. Had woolies, a newsagent and coffee shop. It is only about 47 km into Karratha for major shopping etc. Mind you with a landscape of just open land it feels along way away from Karratha.
