Tally woke up just before 6 am and it was very tempting to stay up as the sun coming up over the Murray looked beautiful but it was also a bit cold so I went back to bed instead! The kids woke up around 7 and wanted to go straight down to the beach, which got Nick out of bed as they had to get changed into bathers first - yesterdays clothes were ruined!! We all had breakfast outside and then spent an hour fixing IT issues (bloody Apple!) before Nick headed off into Yarrawonga in search of water with Katharine. While they were gone I did school work with the other three and although we started strongly we all fizzled quite quickly - the lure of the water was too strong!! Nick came back with hot chooks and bread rolls for lunch but no water. He'd gone in to Tourist Information and found that the town had stopped travelers from being able to top up as many come up and sit on the banks of the Murray for long periods at a time, especially this weekend being the Melbourne Cup! No wonder there as so many vans here parked along the bank with no one in them. They have all come and reserved their spot for this weekend. We quickly decided to move on on Thursday and find somewhere we can avoid the crowds, although after the kids came back from the river covered head to foot to muddy sand and needing showers we may even have to move on tomorrow due to a lack of water!! We went for a walk in the afternoon and then sat with a glass of wine watching dozens of Rainbow Bee-Eaters swoop the water. Poor Tally spent too long swimming in the river and dry wretched for most of the evening as if something was stuck in her throat - she's a clever Lab!! We had sausages in a bun on the BBQ and played Gubs before bed. It's a very peaceful spot here but after the kids and dog have been in the river it feels as if everything is filthy - but then that's our experience of free camping in Victoria!!
