Being close to the road felt like being on the LAX runway as road trains roared past all night and shook the van from side to side. Nick and I were awake before 6am, lifted the kids into the car fast asleep and packed up quietly without waking up our poor neighbours. We hit the road again and stopped around 930 am for breakfast and coffee. The road across to Bivouac Junction was extremely slow due to road works and the scenery was exactly the same for hours on end! We stopped in Hughenden for lunch at the bakery but ate on the road as we were all desperate to arrive - everyone had had enough of being in the car. We finally made it to Bivouac Junction, 20 kms East of Charters Towers, around 4 pm. We were shown a huge powered site over looking the river for $28 pn. Chickens and Peacocks were walking around everywhere and while Nick and I set up camp the kids ran off trying to pat them. We had a cup of coffee and then walked down by the river, which is apparently free of crocodiles! I made a quick pasta for dinner, scrubbed the kids from top to toe in the shower and put them all to bed by 730 pm - they were asleep by 731 pm!!
