This past weekend a celebration in Granada occurred and it was great! The name of it was Las Fallas, which is a crazy famous party/celebration in Valencia, Spain (a city on the east coast of Spain). In Valencia, Las Fallas lasts for approximately 3 weeks. During these three weeks there are lots of parades, traditional food/beverages being served, men and women dressed in traditional dresses and suits and they perform the dances of Valencia, and most importantly, the fallas! Fallas are floats that are hand made for the celebration, and then they are burned at the very end (how sad!). There are also fireworks everyday for the duration of the 3 weeks.
However, the people of Valencia wanted to promote Las Fallas so they traveled to Granada for one weekend and I was SO HAPPY that they did since I didn't get to go to the one in Valencia.
In Granada, the celebration lasted for 3 days and there were some parades with bands and the fancy dresses, and there was one really big falla with about 5 or 6 smaller ones. There was a big tent that people hung out in throughout the weekend with a DJ and food and beverages. On Sunday, they served 2000 servings of Valencian Paella for free!! That evening, there was a fireworks show that was followed by the burning of the fallas. It was crazy!! There were so many people that came to watch, and the fire was insane. It lit up the whole sky and anyone who was sitting close had to move,
It was a really cool weekend to be a part of, and I had a blast going with my friends!
