The last stop of the weekend for my group was Cordoba. It was my favorite of the three places! A little history on Cordoba..there have been four important cultures at different times in the city of Cordoba (Roman, Arabic, Jewish, and Christian) which has lead Cordoba to be extremel unique and diverse in the architecture and monuments it has. All within one town there is a large Roman style bridge, a sinagogue, and a giant mosque that the christians later turned into a Cathedral. How awesome is that?!
When we arrived in Cordoba we ate a quick lunch and then began our walking tour. The first stop was the Sinagogue-our guide told us that there are only 20 Jewish people remaining in Cordoba so it is no longer in use. Outside of the sinagogue there was a statue of the guy who was really important in Jewish culture, and if you touch his feet you "obtain more knowledge." So of course we all did that. :)
Next we walked to the Zoco-mercado de las Artesania. It was a small plaze that had cobble stone floor and the walls were lined with bright flowers in blue flower pots. It was gorgeous! The flower pots were also on the walls of Calle de flores. They really made the town look beautiful.
The last stop we made was the insanely awesome Mosque-Cathedral. It was so large and ornate I couldn't pay attention to the tour guide because I just kept taking pictures!! It was beautiful. It was interesting to see how the two styles blended together-it was easy to tell where the christians re-did things because there were lots of crosses.
We didn't go to the main city of Cordoba, just the section that was the old town. It was full of little shops and restaurants and winding streets all around the beautiful antique buildings. I loved every minute of it. Then we headed back to good old Granada to spend the rest of our week!
