This past weekend I had the AWESOME opportunity to spend a weekend in Paris with my sister, Annie. It was by far my favorite trip so far. Maybe it was because I loved Paris, or maybe it was becuase I had not seen my family in two and a half months and there aren't a lot of things in this world that beat quality time between sisters. :)
Travel to Paris was a little rocky, considering I missed my flight, had to take a train to Madrid, and then fly to Paris over the course of 20 hours. But it was all worth it!
Friday afternoonI arrived to Paris Annie was waiting for me outside of the metro station. I got so excited when I saw her! We walked back to our apartment rental where I changed and we began our non stop jabbering. :) We then headed to our wine tasting that Annie had found for us. It was my very first tasting and I really enjoyed it! How many people get to say they experienced their first wine tasting in the world capital of wine?! I am very blessed. :) That night we got some dinner downtown (where I had my first duck) and then went to bed super early since we were both exhausted.
The next day (Saturday) we got an early start after our breakfast of cheese, olives, salami, and oreos (haha) and hit up all of the main attractions. From the two islands of Paris (Ile de la Cite and Ile de St Louis), the padlock bridge, the French Revolution Museum (that was in pure French so not a lot was understood there), Museum of Orsay (where we somehow missed Van Gogh's original Starry night painting..oops!), Invalides, the CLOSED military museum, Concord, Arc de Triumph, and of course, the Eiffel Tower! We also had some crepes along the way of our adventures, and yes they were indeed the best crepes I had ever tasted.
We got our excersise in, that's for sure! They don't tell you that the Arc de Triumph is a straight spiral staircase all the way up to the top. Our thighs were burning! All the reason for more crepes. :)
That night we had our fancy dinner at a restaurant in the Latin Quarter. We treated ourselves to a three course, delicious French meal that included a bottle of wine. :) Our waiter was hilarious and made sure our dinner went smoothly, and it did! We then headed back to our apartment rental for some more wine and bonding time together. :)
Sunday began by first visiting Notre Dame cathedral. It was really pretty inside! Then guess what we did? Got some more crepes! :) Once again, they were delicious. Then we went to an art market we had heard about where they had really cool paintings, jewelry, and even some pretty sweet hats. After this we went up up up up (and yes I mean up lots of hills and stairs) to Montmartre. This was my favorite place of Paris. It is a neighborhood that has a beautiful Basilica and lots of cute shops and restaurants. My favorite part was the plaza FILLED with talented painters. Annie and I each got a gorgeous painting from a really nice artist. :) We had one last French meal and glass of wine together before heading back to our apartment rental.
Later on Sunday Annie took me to my bus that I had to take to go to the airport. I did not want to leaver her at all! But we both survived the goodbye and I headed back to Granada, which was once again a not so smooth adventure! It included sleeping in a train station, walking around the city of Malaga for a couple of hours in the middle of the night, and hanging out in an alley way for a little while to block the wind until the bus station opened in the morning. Good thing I met up with a guy from my class on the plane so I wasn't by myself!
In the end, Paris was an absolutely fantastic trip and I had a great time. Nice people, amazing food, and breathtaking city. AND I GOT TO SEE MY SISTER! :)
