Friday 9th October - Castell de Montjuic.
We payed for two seniors to get into the castle the princely sum of €6 for the two of us and apart from the magnificient view decided that it wasn't worth even that paultry sum.
The Castell de Montjiuc is an old fort that dominates the southern heights of the mountain and enjoys commanding views out over the Mediterranean and to the north a wonderful view of Barcelona.
The fort dates in its present form from the 17th century. For most of its dark history it has been used to watch over the city and as a political prison and a killing ground.
Anachists were executed there around the end of the 19th century, fascists during the civil war and republicans after that.
We climbed the stairs, walked the ramparts and the best thing was the views of the city, the port and out over the sea.
We headed down to the cable car and then on to the funicular and then got the Metro to Liceu where we looked for a lunch spot.
