Tuesday 6th October - The Walk on Down to Get the Metro Back Up!
It had got very hot and we found out that it was 28 deg so we walked on the shady side of the road all of the way down to the Arc de Troimf which is at the entrance to a huge green space.
We walked and sat and walked some more and found another seat.
We walked through to the only museum that is free in Barcelona and it is the El Born Cultural Centre. It is inside a huge iron framed building that was built in 1871 for a covered market but it proved to be too big so some archaeologist started digging and found a city within the market.
It is a journey of Barcelona of 1700 and the scene of events of the 1714 siege that devastated the city and it explains the loss of Catalonia's rights. There was a walkway right around the site with the old city and all the diggings being below us and for all to see with explanations every few metres.
This was well worth the detour.
BUT the feet were sore and the bodies hot and tired and we wanted o go home so we headed for the Metro at Jaume I. We got the train 2 stops and then had to change lines to get the train to our stop. Well the underground walk along this tunnel nearly meant that we walked most of the way home. The best guestimate was that the tunnel was about 700m.
We are meant to be going out to dinner tonight??
