We woke to a beautiful sunny morning with temperatures in the mid twenties!
We decided to explore the picturesque Kalbarri National Park.
Kalbarri National Park is only about 30km from Kalbarri Township but it is a fairly rough corrugated road getting in there. Once again we needed to open our wallet to enter a natural area with an un-maintained road. In Western Australia you feel like you are forever opening your wallet to enter a National Park or an Aboriginal Community and you get nothing for your money!! However, on this occasion the road was the only bad part. Kalbarri NP is beautiful and we were amazed how the beautiful Murchison River had carved out such a spectacular gorge through the sandstone! The water was still flowing and it looked amazing with such a stark contrast against the rugged sandstone gorge cliff face! Another unique aspect of the upper gorge area is Nature's Window, a natural rock arch that frames the upstream view of the Murchison Gorge, absolutely spectacular! There are some longer treks for the young and fit to take throughout the National Park, but mostly the walks were very doable at a couple of kilometres return. Lochie was getting tired and fell asleep on the rough return drive to Kalbarri Township. After he woke up Kellie and Lochie went with another family, that Lochie had befriended from the caravan park, to the beach for some fun in the sun. Tomorrow we are leaving beautiful Kalbarri, its definitely been one of the highlights of our journey. Not sure where we will end up tomorrow night.
