We set off for Perth this morning on the train. We bought a $4.40 ticket each (senior citizens) and used it as a rover ticket for the bus, train and ferry! Bargain! We mooched around Perth in the morning, had a snack and then caught the ferry to south Perth, about a 15 minute ride. We disembarked and walked to the zoo. Today was another highlight of the holiday. We went on a tour of the Super Pit. We were lucky that it took place because the Monday and Tuesday tours were cancelled due to the torrential rain on Monday. This pit is the 2nd largest in the world. It is 1.55km across and 3.7km long and 600m deep. It produces 22 tonnes of gold each year and current plans will see mining continue until 2021. We set off this morning at 6:00 to catch the Prospector train to Kalgoorlie. When we arrived we met a large group of school girls also catching the train. Teachers behave the same wherever!! They checked all the girls were there, lined them up in their houses and then ensured they all walked on the train in line and sensibly. You can probably imagine what I was thinking!!
