Today we went for a drive to Wyndham, it's only about 100kms from Kununurra. On the way we stopped at The Grotto, which is like a big gorge, it is out in the middle of nowhere, unfortunately the waterfall wasn't running but it was still interesting. We drove through the town of Wyndham to the Port of Wyndham which was like another little town. There we saw road trains unloading what we think was iron ore, (we will have to do some research) We went fishing on the community jetty, the tide certainly goes out a long way and comes in very fast. No luck for us with the fishing, but as we were leaving a man caught a shark just to rub in the fact that we still haven't caught anything worth eating.
Above the town of Wyndham there was a lookout called Five Rivers Lookout from here you could see the town, the port and you had about a 270` view of saltplains, ocean and land it was amazing.
On the way back to Kununurra we stopped off to see the Prision Tree it was about a 45minute drive up a 4wd track, 22kms off the Great Northern Hwy. The Prision Tree is a hollowed out boab tree, it was used for overnight prisioners in the early 1900's.
When heading back to town the skies became very dark and a storm was looming, the rain came down quite heavy and by the time we got back to town the storm had gone.
Tomorrow morning we are going on a flight over the Kimberley's, it will be interesting as neither of us have been in a small plane. On the news tonight we saw that there were 2 small plane crashes today, not exactly what we need to hear. We are being picked up from the caravan park at 5.15 and the flight goes for about 2hrs.
