After leaving Broome we drove to Eighty Mile Beach which is ninety miles long, (apparently it used to be called Ninety Mile Beach). We had a 10km drive up a dirt road and we wondered where this place was, we got to the top of a rise and there it was beautiful turquoise water. It certainly doesn't look like our Ninety Mile Beach, it has eight metre tides, no large surf, but it has stingers and turtles come in to lay their eggs from Nov till Jan, which is pretty awesome. We got out of bed at 11.30 and headed down to the beach towards high tide, after about an hour we started to see the turtles coming in, making their way up the beach to dig their hole and lay their eggs. You weren't allowed to have bright torches because this could scare them away so it was difficult to get photos.
We planned on only staying one night but it was so nice that we stayed 3. It was great, Jim was able to finally do some surf fishing. Unfortunately the tides were about 1am & 1pm so we only had daytime to do fishing. Jim caught a blue nose salmon which he said did not good at all, the next day he caught a couple more blue nose (too small) and he lost a big salmon, (yes it was big, we saw it jump out of the water),a shovel nose ray. Jim had a good battle with what someone said was possibly a shark, unfortunately after about 15mins of the drag going off and them Jim reeling it in, the line finally broke.
We had a lovely relaxing time and enjoyed the sea breeze after driving throught the outback for so long.
