Dinsdag 4 december wordt een drukke en lange dag. In de ochtend is het nog rustig en kan ik werk nakijken en blogs wat bijwerken.

's Middags ga ik naar Tumbuh 2, waar de studenten om twee uur een presentatie over het onderwijs in Nederland geven aan het team. Als ik daar aankom, is het echter ondertussen al ruim een uur eerder gebeurd…….

Maar ik kom gelukkig ook voor een gesprek met Dinna, de principal van de school. Ze is bijzonder bevlogen en aardig, en heeft hier alles goed in de hand. Met haar spreek ik over de prestaties en ontwikkeling van de studenten, maar vooral ook over de plannen en mogelijkheden voor volgend jaar.

Hieronder is de rapportage naar aanleiding van dit gesprek, later nog wat aangevuld door Dinna:

Report Tumbuh2: 2012 and topics for 2013

2012: 8 students: Brit, Marloes, Adelien, Angela, Mandy, Beate, Louise, Sanne

The group worked als a team; was on Tuesday and Thursday in the school; used other days to develop.

Only for English each two students had their own class.

This year the topics of the students were as follows:

1. Sign for silence and attention.

2. Dayroutine cards: program of the day in pictures; how to use this; meaning for the children, specially special-need-children.

3. Rules for hall and corridor: Pictures for the rules; how to act as a team and being conseauent to the children.

4. Trafficlight; using it consequently

5. Teaching English by activating, playful didactics; also giving differentiating possibilities; giving the example in this; introducing this way of learning tot the teachers themselves.

6. Creating a relation with the team / teachers, and also with the children, by teaching regularly, talking; playing games etc. Also following special activities, together with children like traditional music and dance, batik etc.

7. Developing an reward system, especially individual reward system for special-need-children; also a simple system for rewarding the group

8. Plans for several special-need-children and acting according that plan.

9. Creating an handbook about these topic for the teachers, so they can develop the topics themselves.

10. Information and answering questions about the Dutch schoolsystem; differences and similarities between Holland and Indonesia.

11. Organizing a part of the Midyearfestival at the end.

Topics for 2013 (evt. choice of):

2. Teaching: English, math, if possible daily (obliged); enrich the students by teaching Math and Science in English.

(Not all children here speak and understand English)

3. Working together with Sanata Dharma students, who come once a week: Preparing lesson together. SDU-student gives the lesson on Monday; the other day the HR-student teaches the same (or some more) in English (but there is a problem now, because SDU-students only can give one lesson per period….)

4. Making plans for special-need-children; bringing it into practice. All according mission and way of working within Tumbuh.

5. Eventually other topics according to the talents and observations of the students.

Na het gesprek ga ik even een kleinigheidje eten in de Malioboro Mall, en fiets ik naar huis.

Deze avond hebben we het Farewelldinner in het Goglo Mlato Resto, aan de noordkant van de stad. Vorige week ben ik erheen gefietst om alles af te spreken, en nu wil ik op tijd zijn om alle gasten (52 worden er verwacht) te kunnen ontvangen. Kwart over vijf komt de taxi met Melanie, Els en Julian, en gaan we op weg. De chauffeur weet niet waar het is, en ik wijs hem de weg (weer eens wat anders…).

Bij aankomst is de pendopo pico bello in orde, en staan daarachter de "karretjes" voor allerlei soorten eten klaar.

De eerste gasten, die keurig rond zes uur komen, zijn rekendocent Yansen Marpaung en zijn vrouw, die als chauffeur voor hem moest dienen. Daarna komen er groepen studenten. Eén groep heeft een chauffeur die ze zowat heel Yogya laat zien. Dat werd een duur ritje, maar ze zijn er in elk geval. Ook de gasten van Sananta Dharma arriveren in kleine groepjes.

Ondertussen gebeurt er maar niets en ga ik eens vragen wanneer ze beginnen met het eten. Dan blijkt, dat de tijd verkeerd is doorgegeven: Pas negen uur is er gepland. Maar binnen een half uurtje kan alles klaar staan gelukkig. Er wordt alvast gemberthee gepresenteerd.

Met een groep motoren en scooters arriveren dan verschillende Tumbuhleraren gezamenlijk. Nu wordt het pas echt gezellig.

Ik houd een voor Indonesische begrippen kleine toespraak, ook om samen op Fred Feuerstake te proosten (met een glas water…), wiens idee het was om een diner voor alle betrokken hier te organiseren.

Even later staat het eten klaar en kunnen we genieten van de overvloed aan lekkernijen.

Dit alles is te zien op de film, die ik ook op het blog heb gezet.

Na afloop probeer ik het restant van de rekening met de creditcard te betalen, maar dat lukt niet erg. Of ik de volgende dag wil terugkomen. Nou, dat doen we dan maar…

Ik bestel zes taxi's voor de studenten en mezelf, en we rijden snel terug richting onze hotels. Het was bijzonder geslaagd, gezellig en levendig, en niet te vergeten….lekker. Alleen was het veel te veel eten, maar gelukkig hebben d eleraren veel mee naar huis genomen.
