We left Cape Tribulation and headed to Cooktown via the Bloomfield track which is a 4WD only track. We thought this would be good practice for the Cape. The track had a few creek and river crossings which we were able to make no worries. David commented that the track was "dryer than a dingo's donger". He says that's how they talk up this way! The drive was scenic with some lovely spots along the Bloomfield river.

We are staying at the Orchid Travellers Park right in the middle of town. It was State of Origin our first night here so we watched the match at the Top Pub about 50m walk from the caravan park. The result did not go the locals way with NSW winning and I didn't find the game all that interesting, falling asleep in the second half!

We did a bit of a walk around town. It has lovely wide streets and there are a few shops around but they seem to be in batches at various spots along the main and surrounding streets. We went for a drive up Grassy Hill which has great views over the town, through to the mountains as well as over the sea.

We went and chatted to one of the staff at the QPWS office (Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services) for information on the roads to the Cape as well as alcohol restrictions, camping information - anything we can think of. We are looking forward to making a start, which we will do once we attend the Quinkan Bull Rides (near the town of Laura) on Saturday.

It might be up to a few weeks before we are able to update the site, so please stay tuned and be happy (and don't worry).
