We spent four nights on Fraser and the first three it rained. Not the ideal weather for a few days on the island but we worked through it.
We spent most days driving around the island looking at the sites including Lake Mackenzie, Lake Wabby, Eli Creek, the Mahena ship wreck and Kingfisher Bay. The roads were all sandy and offered us a good opportunity to work on our 4 wheel driving skills. We only saw one car get into trouble. It was a Troop carrier with 11 backpackers in it. Pushing didn't budge it and another car ended up towing them out of trouble. Turns out they hadn't let any air out of their tyres. Ours were at 21psi and they were at 40!!
We stayed inland at Central Station which had big spacious campsites and good facilities as well. The campsite did have dingo fence, however on our last day a dingo did make it through somehow and there were Rangers around trying to get him out. We didn't see too many dingos - a couple along the east beach and also at Lake Mackenzie.
We got to and from the island by a barge from Inskip Point near Rainbow beach.
