Camino 3
After yesterday's rain and the storms experienced throughout the night it wasn't looking too good for today. Started off ok and it too much rain so I decided to go the long way to Sarria and go via the monastery at Samos. This was beautiful. Stopped for a coffee and all was going well. Until I got about 7km out of Sarria and the heavens opened. Coming from Manchester I feel well qualified to talk on this subject. The rain was torrential. The pathways, particularly downhill were dangerous. Walking on the roadways into Sarria was like walking in a river. I caught up with my old mate, Greg, from NSW who was struggling so I stayed with him for a while, keeping his mind off his aching limbs. Eventually got in to Sarria but absolutely wet through. In these conditions it is difficult to keep anything dry, no matter how many plastic bags there are. I understand from the news that these are once in a decade conditions, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, a shower and then Galician soup, hake cutlets, creme caramel, a bottle of red and a coffee and all is well in the world again.
