Camino 3
Relatively straight forward ride to Castrojeriz. Down the back lanes for the most part. Arrived and had a beautiful lunch of garlic soup, sardines, rice pudding and a couple of beers. Then realised my back tyre was flat and couldn't get my pump to work. So what do you do? I went down the local bar and asked if anybody in town could do something for me. Bear in mind Castrojeriz is in the middle of nowhere and a bit like being put in the middle of a spaghetti western. Th barman pointed to this little bloke and asked if he could help. He put my bike in the back of his car and asked me to sit in the front and go with him - all in Spanish. He ended up being the local Steptoe and son. His place had all sorts of everything in it including an air pump built out of some old fridge parts. I doubted he would be able to do anything with the bike valve but he put some concoction together and had my tyre inflated in seconds flat. Francisco Javier has become my absolute bloody hero. All he wanted from me was a cup of coffee back at the bar! However, I then met Irish Eddie at the bar who is walking with his wife who has blisters so he had escaped to the bar. We ended up having several beers to solve the problems of the world. I fear there may be more to come this evening with Eddie and or Francisco Javier. This is the stuff.
