Camino 3
A very difficult and tiring climb to the top of the Pyrenees and part descent for tonight's stay at Canfranc Estacion. It rained from the second I set off. Not heavy, but drizzly, soaking rain. It was a very narrow trail, not at all similar to the Napolean crossing out of St Jean last year. It seemed more draining on the body but I also put that down to the fact that it was a solo climb whereas last year was done amongst many other pilgrims who continually encouraged each other. At the very top where old boarder post is there were no views possible due to the rain. As soon as I entered Spain at this point the signage changed to the traditional yellow arrows which is always a reassuring sight. I arrived at my hotel soon after midday as I made good time and I would say it is the best hotel that I have encountered thus far. A good shower, tidy up, and then beautiful lunch in their exquisite restaurant. Back there for dinner tonight. It is quite a spectacular location and very much geared up for the snow season; surrounded by the mountains of the Pyrenees.
